James McIntyre (1798-1853) was born in Argyll, Scotland; he arrived in Sydney in 1822, as army surgeon on the Eliza, and was appointed Colonial Assistant Surgeon. He later moved to Port Macquarie, NSW, where he married Louisa Cross and set up in private practice. In 1848 his nephew Angus John Macinnis (1818-1902), also from Argyll in Scotland, arrived in Australia.
Angus John Macinnis was appointed manager of 'Saumarez', the New England property of Colonel Dumaresq. In 1856 he married Margaret Mackay, eldest child of George and Ann Mackay who had taken up 'Ness Farm', a sheep run near Armidale, after emigrating from Inverness, Scotland in 1854. The Macinnis family moved out west to 'Wingadee', a property near Coonamble, but after its failure, caused by drought, they returned to the New England district in 1872. Margaret and Angus John had nine children one of whom was Angus Macinnis.
Angus Macinnis (1864-1923) joined the New South Wales Mounted Police in 1892; he married Florence Evans in 1902 and their son Douglas Evan Macinnis was born the following year. Angus was stationed in various NSW towns : Broken Hill, Crookwell, Cathcart, Jindabyne, Delegate and Campbelltown. Douglas Evan Macinnis was educated at Goulburn High School and Sydney University.
