    Marjorie Flower was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1920 and studied languages at the University of Western Australia and Melbourne University. She converted to Roman Catholicism during the Second World War and entered the Carmelite Monastery at Kew, Victoria in 1946. For 47 years she was a member of the Carmelite community in Papua New Guinea, at Yule Island and Bomana. She returned to Sydney in 1993
