  • Scope and Content
    P3/207a (handcoloured) and P3/207c (uncoloured) are proof lithographs for the first edition of Thomas Mitchell's Three expeditions into the interior of Eastern Australia ... London: T. & W. Boone, 1838 (ref. DL 83/248, location : Sir William Dixson Reading Room). Although numbered 'Pl. 4', it was bound as the frontispiece. Other printed inscriptions are left to right beneath image 'Major T.L. Mitchell delt.'; 'G. Foggo lith.'; J. Graf, Printer to her Majesty'; then centre 'Cambo.'; and beneath 'Published by T. & W. Boone , London.'.;
    P3/207b is a handcoloured lithograph from the second edition of 1839 (ref. 981/2B1, location : Mitchell Library). There are minor variations of punctuation in the title and imprint. The plate number has been changed to 'Pl. 1';

    Mitchell's original pencil drawing of Cambo, done in 1831, as he describes on pages 20-1 of Three expeditions ... is now in the Dixson Library, ref. ZDL PXX 21, f. 1
