Sir Frederick Darley was born in Ireland in 1830 and migrated to Australia in 1862. He was admitted to the NSW Bar and in 1868 was appointed Chief Justice of NSW. He was knighted in 1887 and became lieutenant-governor in 1891. He died in London in 1910.
