    Melva Thomas (nee Vincent) was born in Dorrigo, NSW in 1912. She contributed to The Sun Herald's 'Sunbeams' page under the pen-name "David". She began her career as a cadet reporter on her father's newspaper, the Don Dorrigo Gazette; in 1936 she took up a position with the Country Press in Sydney. She wrote many short stories which were published, under the pen-name M.G. Vincent, in various magazines including The Australian Women's Mirror and The Bulletin, and in several Coast to Coast anthologies. In 1980 she published 'The Vincent printers', a history of the Vincent family's involvement wth the newspaper business.

    1929-1996; Papers, mainly letters received, correspondents include : Ron [no surname - 'Sunbeams' pen-name was "Cerebos"], a music buff, of swing music and Duke Ellington in particular, (his father was a member of Jimmy Davidson's Palais Royal Orchestra), and he writes at length about popular music of the day and of his social activities in Sydney [with typescript copies transcribed by Mrs Thomas]; J. Lawson Glassop; the Sydney Literary Society; other papers include : references, family photographs (4), exhibition catalogues (Festival of Fisher's Ghost, Campbelltown), newscuttings (Call No.: ADD-ON 2114/1X)
