Lot 27 of the Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge 2 Feb. 1914 sale "Catalogue of ... valuable manuscripts ... by or relating to Major-General Lachlan Macquarie" (QA 923.59/M Mitchell Library) describes "Drawings of Tippahee, a Chief of New Zealand [SV*/MAO/PORT/14]; Ca la watnin Ba, a Native of the Coal River; Aborigines of Van Diemen's Land and others of Australian Natives...". It is likely the Library acquired this drawing when it purchased this collection.
