The Nursing Mothers’ Association of Australia, originally called the Nursing Mothers’ Association, was formed in 1964 by Mary Paton, who decided to form the group when she could not find any constructive information on the subject of breastfeeding.

Now known as the Australian Breastfeeding Association, the organisation consists of 1200 volunteer counsellors and educators. It supports and encourages women who wish to breastfeed or provide breastmilk for their babies, and advocates to raise community awareness of the importance of breastfeeding to child and maternal health.
