Albert William Thompson, an organiser for the Milk and Ice Carters and Dairymen's Employees Union of N.S.W. from 1936, became its General Secretary from 1943 until 1962. An active member of the Australian Labor Party, he was associated with the Labor Council of New South Wales and was an alderman on the Sydney City Council from 1948 until 1953
