Ignatius (or Ignacy) Bierzynski Burnett was born in Tomaszow-Mazowiecki (Poland) in 1925 to Bernard and Theodora. He had a brother Henry.

'In Footsteps of Memory' tells the true story of Ignatius and Stanley, whose lives are linked when they are sent to a Labour Camp in Blizyn during World War II, in 1943.
