Joanna Mendelssohn was born in 1949. She is art critic for The Australian, and a senior lecturer at the College of Arts, University of NSW. She has published a number of books including The life and work of Sydney Long (1979), Lionel Lindsay: an artist and his family (1988) and Letters & liars: Norman Lindsay and the Lindsay family (1996).
