Antigone Kefala was born in Romania of Greek parents in 1935. She has worked as a librarian and arts administrator and has taught English to migrants. She has published four books of poetry, The alien (1973), Thirsty weather (1978), European notebook (1988) and Absence (1992). She has also published three short novels, The first journey (1975), The boarding house (1975) and The Island (1988) as well as a novel for children, Alexia (1984).
