Doris Storm is the granddaughter of Assad Bookallil who came to Australia from Syria in 1892. Two years later his wife Rose and their six children followed. They lived and worked around Cooma in New South Wales. Doris Storm's parents were in the retail trade in Newtown, a suburb of Sydney. Her brother Gordon Michael Bookallil served in the Australian Army in New Guinea in World War II. A booklet titled Memories of Gordon Michael Bookallil by Doris Bookallil Storm is held in the Mitchell Library at location number Q770.92/B724.7/1 - Scope and ContentPapers concerning the history of the Bookallil family in New South Wales including reminiscences, naturalization certificate, marriage certificates, correspondence between family members on genealogy 1988, 1994, print of Archbishop Gilroy, ‘Back to Cooma celebrations’ with bookmarks and annotations pertaining to Bookallil family, with folders of photographs of family members, particularly Gordon Bookallil during World War II and including photographs and ephemera relating to Bookallil 100 year family reunion 1988 and Julie Bookallil photographs on the occasion of her winning the Lebanese Queen Competition. Includes NSW State Award for senior elocution of Doris Bookallil Storm 1937.
