The Law and Justice Foundation is a statutory body established as the Law Foundation in 1967 to advance the fairness and equity of the justice system, and improve access to justice for the people of NSW. The Foundation is incorporated in New South Wales by the Law and Justice Foundation Act 2000 (NSW).

In 1974 the Law Foundation established the High School Education Law Project (HELP), recognising the need for legal studies at the high school level.

1985-1993 the Foundation established the Youth and the Law Project, an eight-year experiment in youth crime prevention.

The Legal Information Access Centre was established in 1990 as a joint initiative of the Law Foundation and the State Library of NSW, providing free access to plain language legal information through the state's public library network.
