The portrait was painted on the balcony of the house rented in the mid-1940s by Elizabeth Riddell and her husband, 22 The Crescent, Parsley Bay, Vaucluse. The cat was called 'Celestina' and used to sit on the rocks beneath the house at the water's edge. One of the Port Jackson pilot boats is in the right middle distance. Geoffrey and Dahl Collings were family friends and professional colleagues. (ref. conversation between Elizabeth Riddell and Elizabeth Ellis, 28 May 1998) - Signatures / Inscriptions
