    John Tierney (1892-1972), comic novelist and short-story writer, was born at Eurunderee, NSW. He was a teacher, mainly of English, for 37 years in state high schools in many parts of NSW and in Sydney, retiring in 1951. Under his pseudonym `Brian James' he published 4 collections of short stories, 2 novels and edited 2 collections of short stories. His novel `Hopeton High' (Sydney: Angus & Robertson, 1963) drew on his wide teaching experience.
