Kennedy Byron Burnside was born in 1913. He studied medicine at Melbourne University, graduating in 1937. During World War 2 he attained the rank of major, commanding the 2nd Australian Mobile Bacteriological Laboratory stationed in Malaya, 1941-45. He was a prisoner of war 1942-45. After the war he was attached to the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne as Hon. Surgeon to Outpatients, 1948-56, Surgeon in charge of the Urology Department, 1956-73 and Consultant Urologist, 1973-1983? - Scope and ContentDiaries recording Major Burnside's experiences during World War 2.
