  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    According to the donor and inscriptions on some of the drawings, the artist was Rev. J.B. Armstrong who sailed to Australia in late-1884 - early 1885 on the Hampshire. He travelled in New South Wales before setting in Queensland. The donor's grandfather was given the sketchbook by the Rev. Armstrong.

    In sketchbook (PXA 704/10) f. 1 is inscribed in ink along lower edge of drawing 'Trinidad (Atlantic) 35 miles away from the "Hampshire" ... Jan. 16 1885; f. 4 is signed in pencil with initials and dated 'J.B.A. 10/12/85'
