The Menzies Hotel opened in Sydney in 1963 and contained 260 guest rooms, bars, lounges and restaurants. In 1985 the hotel chain Holiday Inn took over the management of the hotel. In 1993, to commemorate the hotel's 30th anniversary, notices were placed in newspapers asking for letters from guests recalling their memories of staying at the hotel.
