  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    James W. Gay was a marine engineer and freemason from Balmain, N.S.W.. During the 1890s he served on the S.S. Warrego, a coastal passenger vessel, and also travelled to New Zealand. He married Jessie Darling, daughter of Henry Darling, in Sydney in 1896. Members of the Gay family went on holidays in New Zealand. Henry Darling's second marriage was to a widow, Mary Ann Orpen in 1885.
