  • Scope and Content
William Foster was a prolific author of books for Australian school children; he was at one time a headmaster in New South Wales. His fascination for Sir Thomas Mitchell's life and exporation led to the accumulation of extensive records of Mitchell's pathfinding in Australia and in the United Kingdom, all of which Foster documented in detail for over 50 years, including by walking in Mitchell's footsteps. These boxes contain Foster's research in folders, by time period and by focus. Includes first draft manuscript of Foster's book on Mitchell (published 1985); Indenture between Robert Blunt and Thomas Mitchell (1822); extensive family tree diagrams and correspondence relating to research.
