Photograph shows two boys sitting on the ridge above Hardy's Bay (in the Gosford District), looking at an inscription carved into the rock which reads "J. Oxley, 1821"

The authenticity of the "J. Oxley, 1821" inscription is not known. There is no reference to John Oxley having been in that area in 1821, but he may have been there on an unrecorded expedition or unofficially
