    Prints - 1 line engraving with etching on wove watercolour paper - 12.9 x 20.3 cm inside frame lines; 15.3 x 21.8 cm plate size; 27.6 x 38 cm paper size
  • General note

    The original drawing for this engraving can be attributed to Wallis by the inscription on its reverse
    This plate was not used in the 1821 London edition, "Historical account of the colony of New South Wales", but a later state of it was bound into a set of Wallis's prints (once owned by Alfred Lee) which is now at F981.W cop. 5, Mitchell Library. Another copy of the later state is at PXD 373/20
    This engraving pre-dates the large plate of Newcastle (see PXD 373/6) which was used in the London "Historical account of the colony of New South Wales". This engraving does not show the watch-house (?) at the left of the public wharf - the building appears in the later plate
