  • General note

    In 1968 the complete album was lent to the Mitchell Library for inspection and copying of significant drawings. For a list of the contents at this time and references to Small Pictures File locations of photographic copies, see Mitchell Library PXn 150, location Sir William Dixson Reading Room. In 1996, most of the drawings were extracted from the album, and sold to several different purchasers. The Mitchell Library acquired the drawings listed in this record, plus the remains of the scrap album.
    One pencil drawing of Dawes Point from the North Shore by Conrad Martens from the original album was acquired in 1996 by the Art Gallery of New South Wales for their Australian Prints and Drawings collection, see Australian drawings from the Gallery's collection / Hendrik Kolenberg, Prue Davidson, Anne Ryan.     A watercolour of Blues Point by Conrad Martens also from the album was offered at Christie's Fine Australian Paintings Sale, Sydney, 17 August 1998, lot 1022

    Titles and dates inscribed on drawings lower right or upper left. Album inscribed on front endpaper 'Sophia I. Campbell from her affectionate brother George Campbell A.D. 1847'.

    3 grawings are laid down on pages cut from former album ; 4 retain guards along top edge from album binding - scrap album from which drawings were taken, brown morocco with blind and gilt embossing on front and back covers and spine
