  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    James Brash (b. 1881), was a composer, organist, and choral and instrumental conductor. He was born and educated in Helensburg, Scotland at Hermitage School. He was trained by Dr Berry and Edgar Barratt of Leipzig and Dr Healy of Oxford. He was winner in various Australia-wide competitions, including 'The Rising Sun-Anzac Anthem'. 'Tam I’the Kirk' was judged by Dr John Ireland in London and published by Frederick Harris of London and Canada. Some of his four-part vocal works were recorded by the Adelaide Singers, conducted by Norman Chinner. He was Examiner and Adjudicator throughout Australia and New Zealand. He married soprano singer Alice Prowse. He was a foundation member of APRA and the Music Teachers Association
