Henry Handel Richardson (1870-1946) is regarded as one of Australia's foremost writers. Her novels include The getting of wisdom, Maurice Guest and The fortunes of Richard Mahony. She was born and educated in Melbourne but lived most of her life in England. She and Mary Kernot were fellow pupils at the Presbyterian Ladies College, Melbourne. They corresponded regularly from 1911 to 1946. In her letters Richardson refers to a number of contemporary literary figures including Vance and Nettie Palmer, Miles Franklin, Katharine Susannah Prichard and Patrick White.

1911-1930; Letters received. A group photograph dated 1886 which includes Henry Handel Richardson and Mary Kernot is included in the bundle of letters for the period 1911-1914. (Call No.: ML MSS 45/1)
1931-1935; Letters received. A photograph of Henry Handel Richardson and Olga Roncoroni is attached to the letter dated 25 April 1933. Also included is a letter to Mr Schwarz dated 14 November 1931 attached to the first draft of Christkindleins Wiegenlied. (Call No.: ML MSS 45/2)
