  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Frederick William Ind (1858-1887), soldier, was born in Essex, England and was for a time educated at Harrow. He entered the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich in 1876, was appointed to the Royal Artillery in the rank of lieutenant (1877) and was a member of the British Expeditionary Force in Egypt (1882). He was seconded to the Military Forces of the Colony of Victoria to assist the government with the reorganization of its land forces and arrived in Melbourne in late 1883. He died at Queenscliff, Victoria after a sudden illness.
