    Alexander William Sheppard (1911-1997), was a bookseller and publisher. He founded Alpha Books in 1970, and during his time there collected literary manuscripts by Australian authors. Some of these were published by Alpha Books, for example ‘No case to answer’ by Jo. Stevenson, 1971 and ‘Dougherty, a great man among men : a biography of Major General Sir Ivan Dougherty', 1979
