Sir Evan Nepean, 1751-1822, was Under-Secretary in the Home Office at the time of the foundation of the colony of New South Wales. His brother Nicholas arrived in Sydney in 1790 in charge of the first detachment of the New South Wales Corps, and was in command at Norfolk Island for a short period during 1793.

Contains portraits of Evan and Nicholas Nepean and other family members, including copy photoprints of original paintings by Gainsborough and other artists. Also includes photoprints of the monument to Evan Nepean in the Loders Church, Dorset, U.K. and interiors of the church.
