    Lionel Lindsay (1874-1961) was born in Creswick, Victoria. He became a freelance artist and journalist. After visiting Spain in 1901-02 he settled in Sydney and established a reputation as an etcher, watercolour painter, wood-engraver, black & white artist and art critic. In 1941 he was knighted for services to art. In his early years he worked closely with his brother, Norman, but the relationship was severed in 1922.

    Jack Lindsay (1900-1990), son of Norman Lindsay, was born in Melbourne and brought up in Brisbane after his parents separated. In 1928 he settled in England, supporting himself by his prolific writing - poetry, drama, history, biography, fiction and drama.
