  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Emily Darvall Paterson (1864-1945) was the blind cousin of the poet Andrew `Banjo' Paterson. She was born at Illalong, near Yass, the second of four children of John Paterson and Emily Barton. From the age of six, Emily lived at `Rockend' in Gladesville, Sydney. She showed a strong love of music and composed music for piano and voice. Her songs include settings of words by `Banjo' Paterson, as well as David Halliday (as a child). In 1907 she set up The After Care Association in Gladesville to help former psychiatric patients.
