Julian Ashton was born in England in 1851 and came to Australia in 1878. A prominent professional artist, he was president of the Art Society of NSW and the Society of Artists. He was made CBE in 1930. He died in 1942. - Scope and ContentOriginal draft of letter, together with typescript copy, to the Secretary of the Trust Fund Committee of the Artists Ball, complaining of impropriety in the conduct of the competition for a scholarship, 10 November 1926;
