  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

In the 1840s a need was perceived for a church in the Darlinghurst district of Sydney. In 1849 the foundation stone of a small school, to be used temporarily as a church, was laid. The first service was held in 1852. It was not until 1856 that the foundation stone of the church itself was laid. The nave and aisles were built two years later and the completed church was consecrated in 1905. Two years earlier a new church school had been opened.
