    In 1886 nine men were convicted of raping a woman at Mount Rennie near Waterloo in Sydney. The case caused a sensation and was known as the Mount Rennie outrage. Four of the men were hanged; the other five, and a cab driver involved in the assault, served ten years in prison before being released in 1896.
  • Scope and Content
    The collection comprises photocopies of documents from official government files including minutes of evidence, witness statements, petitions for remission of sentences and newscuttings. Includes photographs of those convicted: George Duffy, Joseph Martin, William Boyce, Robert Read, Hugh Miller, William Newman, Michael Donnellan, George Keegan, William Hill and Charles Sweetman.
