- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
Daniel Wilson was born in New South Wales in 1819. On 25 January 1844 he sailed from Sydney on board the Henrietta in charge of a consignment of horses bound for Calcutta. - Scope and ContentA detailed account of the voyage of the Henrietta from Sydney to Calcutta and thence to London. Wilson records daily progress, weather conditions, and the general running of the ship. He had overall care of a consignment of horses and chronicles their illnesses, accidents, reactions to the voyage and his own treatments of them. After unloading the horses in Calcutta, the Henrietta set sail on 16 May 1844 for London but was forced to return following a holing. She departed again on 25 July eventually arriving in London on 4 January 1845. The journal also includes several sketches, a record of Wilson's induction into masonic lodges in Australia and England, a number of poems and a brief entry on his departure from England in May 1845 on the barque George.
