  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Thomas Dempsey (ca. 1838-1927), mariner, came to Sydney as a crew member on a cargo ship in 1864. He worked on steamers trading to the Northern Rivers as an able seaman, but opted to captain sailing ships when he earned his captain's ticket in 1870. He continued trading between Sydney and the North coast of N.S.W. He had at least five children, three sons and two daughters.
