Thomas Holt (1811-1888), a wool merchant, financier and parliamentarian, arrived at Sydney from England in 1842. In Sydney he was a successful wool buyer and financier. He owned valuable land in Sydney and acquired large properties in NSW and Queensland. In 1861 he acquired the Holt-Sutherland Estate extending from Botany Bay to Port Hacking. In 1881 Holt leased his Sutherland Estate to the Holt-Sutherland Estate Land Company Ltd. A trust was established after Thomas Holt's death in 1888 to administer his will. Eventually the assets of the Holt-Sutherland Estate Land Company Ltd. and its records passed to the Holt family. This collection includes maps and plans of the Holt-Sutherland Estate compiled by the Holt Sutherland Company Pty Limited. These comprise subdivision plans, 1882-1913; annotated deposited plans, 1881-1912; and manuscript maps, tracings and plans of roads and subdivisions, 1887-1923.
