  • General note

This watercolour appears to be a copy, made by Frederick Garling, of a drawing by Augustus Earle. Earle made his watercolour, "Governor Glass and Companions, Tristan D'Acunha", in 1824 whilst stranded on Tristan De Cunha. He arrived in Sydney in May 1825, which was the month Garling took this copy of the drawing. Both watercolours are of a similar size - Earle's measures 17.5 x 26 cm
Earle's watercolour is now in the National Library of Australia, Canberra, NK 12/6 -- the drawing is reproduced in J. Hackforth-Jones, Augustus Earle Travel Artist, 1980. Location number: REF 1/Q759.2/E11.4/1 Mitchell Library
