    RENT BOOK
    15. Rent book showing rents received for various properties including the Hexham, Lake Macquarie, Stanhope, Belford, and Minmi Estates, 1869-1882. Also includes fifteen loose sheets of financial papers at back of volume (with ledger of William and John Donaldson's account with James Mitchell), 1846-1856, 1862, 1869-1876.

  • General note

    Nos. 1-6 are bank books of James Mitchell and have "James Mitchell" or "Jas Mitchell" on the front cover.
    The bank account books are bound in vellum. Most volumes have a tab and flap on the lid (similar to an envelope) for closing. Four volumes have a brass clasp for closing mechanism.
    No. 3 is signed by James Mitchell on the front endpaper.
    Nos. 8 and 11 do not have front cover.
    No.15 is written in several handwriting styles.
    In some cases, the entries that postdate James Mitchell's death in 1869 are written in D.S. Mitchell's hand.
