  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The Collins family first settled in the Tenterfield region. In 1839 'Deepwater Station' was taken up by Archibald Windeyer, and managed on his behalf by William Collins. 'Deepwater Station' was located 12 miles north of Glen Innes. The Collins family subsequently developed their own holdings in the Tenterfield area, and reputedly introduced Romney Marsh sheep into Australia. The papers and diaries are those of Charles Collins (d. 23 Mar. 1912), his wife Maria Lydia Elizabeth Collins, and their children Cecil Charles William Collins, Edwin Vincer Collins, May Collins and Vera Collins. The family moved from Tenterfield to Sydney around 1910, where they lived at 'Cheyne Court' Yasmar Avenue, Haberfield. The diaries are mainly those of Cecil Charles William Collins (1891- ), and three diaries kept by Vera Collins.
