William Charles Piguenit (1836-1914) was one of the five children of Frederick Le Geyt Piguenit (d.1886), of Huguenot stock and his wife Mary Ann nee Igglesden. Frederick had arrived at Hobart in the Royal George on 8 October 1830 after being sentenced to transportation for fourteen years for receiving government stores. He received a free pardon in 1842.

William, his surviving siblings, Agnes Louise, Emma Mary (b.1842) and Harriet with his parents all moved to Sydney, New South Wales between 1875 and early 1880s. His Brother Augustus had died in 1859 in Hobart.
