    Susan Johnson (1956- ) is one of Australia’s most gifted writers. She worked as a journalist, has published nine novels and a memoir, co-edited ‘Latitudes : New Writing from the North’ (1986) and edited ‘Women Love Sex’. (1996). Her work has received critical acclaim and her most recent work, ‘From where I Fell’ (2021), was shortlisted for the Voss Literary Prize.
  • Scope and Content
    This collection consists of working materials from Susan Johnson's first seven published books Messages from Chaos (1987), Flying Lessons (1991), A Big Life (1993), Hungry Ghosts (1996), A Better Woman: A Memoir (1999), The Broken Book (2004), and Life in Seven Mistakes (2008). The material comprehensively shows the development of her novels from original ideas through various drafts to her published novels, showing in detail her writing methods. Comprises correspondence, diaries, notebooks, drafts, newscuttings, sketchbooks, research material, promotional material and sound recordings.
