  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Charles Lycester Devenish Meares was born in 1909. He was admitted to the NSW Bar in 1932. During World War II he served in the AIF in the Middle East and the Pacific, rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. In 1954 he was appointed Queen's Counsel. From 1969 to 1979 he was a judge of the NSW Supreme Court. He was active in the field of social welfare and served on a number of committees including the National Advisory Council for the Handicapped, the Royal Blind Society and the National Safety Council. He was appointed CMG in 1978 and AC in 1985.
