James Gidley travelling around mainland Australia in the early 1960s, working as an agricultural labourer. Then he flew to Hong Kong, before travelling to Japan and Malaysia. He sought work in these countries, sometimes successfully, as a private teacher of English. He flew to India, then to England, where he took casual jobs, mainly in restaurants. Gidley travelled next to Brazil and made his way through Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Columbia, Panama, Mexico, the United States, and Canada, all the while seeking casual work without much success. He hitch-hiked and used public transport on his jouney through the Americas. He returned to Sydney in 1970 - Subject
