Charles Giugni's shop was in the front of the Prince of Wales Opera House in Mayne Street. The banner hanging out the front of the Opera House advertises "Thiodon's Wonders", family entertainment which commenced 19 June 1872 and ran for two weeks. Giugni, who was born in Switzerland, arrived in Australia around 1868 and came to Gulgong in 1871. In 1876 he married Agnes Young, a daughter of Christopher Young who built the Commercial Warehouse which still stands in Mayne Street. Giugni died in 1903 at the Club House Hotel, Dubbo which he and his family had run until his death. -- Information supplied by Baldwin & Davis, Research Gulgong (Sept 2006)
