  • Scope and Content
    1. London, late 1918-early 1919(?). March past Buckingham Palace of Australian soldiers in slouch hats with fixed bayonets, Queen Mary in toque with top-hatted men behind her in front of palace - ON 165/572*
    2. London, postwar (1918-1919). Military funeral, gun carriage drawn by 9-horse team. Looking down on coffin draped in Union Jack just outside church. Bystanders include a number of general staff officers (braid on caps); three movie cameras on tripods to left, one operated by an Australian soldier in a slouch hat - ON 165/573
    3. London, December 1918(?). Group of service and other men and women around a small field gun, perhaps part of an exhibition in Pall Mall of guns captured by Australians, as mentioned in one of last Rex Hazelwood letters that were copied by family and are now in Australian War Memorial - ON 165/574
    4. London, December 1918. Same general description and comments as for ON 165/574 - ON 165/575
    5. London, 1914-1918(?). Two men in ceremonial robes, and cocked hats, one waving his hat, with a woman on a flag-bedecked, draped stone balcony in front of large, fluted stone columns of a building - ON 165/576
    6. London, 1918-19. Building with ramps each side leading up to front door (for soldiers in robed chairs?) with several men in army uniform, including King George V(?) greeting a nursing sister in white veil - ON 165/577
    7. London, 1918-19(?). Large church on one side of muddy road with motor car driving past. A man in an overcoat stepping off curb to cross behind the car - ON 165/578
    8. London, late May 1919. A large crowd of men and women in square with "Bravingtons 298-296" at far side. Mounted police(?) on road, LH foreground. RH midground, a sign reading "London Aerodrome Handon - Hawker & Grieve on Saturday and Sunday next - May 31st-June 1st at 3pm - Flying displays by Hawker - Come to Hendon & honour British pluck!" - ON 165/579
    9. Durban Harbour, June 1917. Leaving in convoy to Cape Town (ship behind being pulled out by tug); RH - on tip of northern breakwater stands the "Lady Signaller of Durban" Miss Ethel M. Campbell, semaphoring farewell to departing H.W.A.T. Shropshire from which Rex Hazelwood took photo. She is the figure dressed in white - ON 165/580
    10. England 1917-1919(?). Group of Australian Soldiers in slouch hats beside a tree-lined stream, with substantial stone bridge behind them - ON 165/581

    (ON 165/572) Dating : obviously official photo, trees in background leafless, so after Rex Hazelwood began outside work in A.L.F. War Records Section and before spring 1919.
