  • General note

Possibly by George William Evans, and attributed to him by Bernard Quaritch LTD. But a comparison with signed works by Evans suggests that this drawing is the work of a copyist: for a signed drawing by Evans see "Government House, Parramatta, New South Wales", Locn no. ZSSVIB/PARR/12, Mitchell Library. For a work of the copyist, who is sometimes said to be Evans, see "Government House, Parramatta, 1805" (a copy of ZSSVIB/PARR/12), Locn no. ZPXD 388 vol.3 f.3b, Mitchell Library. Both drawings are illustrated in Tim McCormick ed., "First Views of Australia 1788-1825", 1987, p.166-167 Locn no. Ref.1/F760.0444/1 Mitchell Library.
For another view of Blighton Farm see J. W. Lewin, "View from Governor Bligh's farm, Hawkesbury" reproduced in Deutscher Fine Art, Colonial to Modern, August -September 1986 ML ref. ML Picts. catalogues
