  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Albert John Fortescue of Arncliffe, New South Wales, was an inventive pioneer, taking out several patents on designs for a gyroplane, 'a machine that could take off and land vertically'. Tests had been carried out for several years between 1916 and 1919 on the Bonnie Doon Golf Course near (the now) Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.
