    The heroic image of a woman working on the flying boat Coriolanus (PXE 649 v.6/5) was taken at Rose Bay for Fashion and Society 1 July 1944. ‘In the middle of this area of natural beauty and man-made luxury work twenty-five or so of the self-styled luckiest girls in the world. They are not working as cooks or parlour-maids, for even in Bellevue Hill and Point Piper it is doubtful if you would find twenty-five servants these days. Incredible as it seems, they are repairing aeroplanes – big aeroplanes. In fact, they are working on some of the very biggest of big aeroplanes, for Rose bay is the terminal for Qantas Empire Airways…'
