Robert FitzGerald was the son of Robert David FitzGerald, 1830-1892; Robert FitzGerald worked as Engineer, Department of Public Works (ref. Manuscript letter, signed Robert FitzGerald, ML MSS).
Some views shown in the photographs are the same as, or similar to those shown in the glass negatives (Ref. O.N. 147) from the FitzGerald collection of photographs.
A postcard and a letter which accompanied the FitzGerald collection of photographs are filed at ML MSS 5584.

The collection includes photographs of views in New South Wales which appear to be associated with the work of Robert FitzGerald, and which may have been taken by him. Some of the family photographs are by Kathleen FitzGerald.
Collection dated from earliest and latest dated photographs in the collection.
Volume 9 inscribed inside front cover "Kathleen M. FitzGerald February 16th 1910". Volume 13 inscribed inside front cover "27/2/21 Presented to Miss K Fitzgerald by the Teachers and Rector of All Saints Sunday School, Hunters Hill".
