    12. Thursday Island born Master Gunner Laurie Mills signals helmsman from the bow of the whaling boat off Byron Bay on the far north coast of N.S.W.
    13. The whaler Byrond I, a converted navy boat, about to tie up at the Byron Bay wharf
    14. Teams of men worked through the night when on some days the Byrond I brought in up to five whales
    15. The dying whale is made fast prior to being inflated with air hoses so that it will float for towing back to port
    16. Flensing knives are used to dismember the carcass into manageable portions
    17. Water sprays cool and clean the meat prior to processing
